Exhibition idea:
The energy of Užupis flows from the past, now into the future.
The idea of “Užupis Iron” is based on Iron-Metal, without which human life is no longer imaginable. Its usual properties are strength, flexibility, resistance to time, fire and water.
Iron is found everywhere in Užupis: in the water, on the ground, in the sky, in house structures, in embellishments, in flooring, in pipework and even in the kitchen.
Iron in a building serves for bonding, stability and security, and the amount of iron in a building is just as important as in a living organism. In the blood, iron determines the body’s strength, vitality, resistance to disease and, like the reinforcement in a building, expresses its solidity and strength.
The iron of Užupis is extraordinary. The marks of time left in the metal convey the stories, the habits of the people who lived here, the warmth of the hands, the energy that passes through the conductive metal from lost time. It carries the Power that circulates in the “organism” of Užupis – the houses, the people, the air.
In the exhibition, the pulsation of the Užupis Force can be seen in the faces of the houses, in the photographs of the metal décor and, more directly, in the fragments of rusty metalwork.
